Meet COPTS of Australia

Christian Overseas Provident Tutelage Society of Australia Inc.

We would like to thank you for being a continued supporter of COPTS and to let you know a little about the people and projects that you have been helping through your donations to COPTS.

As you know, COPTS is an Australian charity, serving our brothers and sisters in Egypt and beyond for over 32 years. COPTS has zero administration costs and is run by volunteers. This means that COPTS delivers 100% of all funds donated to those who need it most.  Every dollar you send through us is sent across to the target– dollar for dollar.

COPTS provides vital assistance to the poorest communities through job creation programs, family planning, medical care and education.

Our main services include:

• Village Services – This year alone, 145 villages from all over Egypt have benefited from our various development programs.  From Upper Egypt, to slum communities in Cairo, we aim to restore the dignity of thousands of people living in dire circumstances by providing them with basic necessities such as clean running water, sewage services and electricity.

• Educational services – Education is key to breaking the poverty cycle. That’s why COPTS invests its resources heavily in education programs. To date, COPTS has supported over 30 schools and helped in educating over 993,000 students by providing literacy classes, vocational training and complete education support.

• Medical services – Access to basic healthcare is practically impossible for many disadvantaged families living in poorer communities.  With your support, COPTS is changing that. We support the running of over 12 hospitals in Egypt (including in El Hagana, Dar el Shefa and Damanhour) and have helped in treating over 165,000 patients, either for free or for a greatly reduced sum.

• Community development programs – COPTS works closely with local volunteers who implement community education and development projects.  These development projects span from basic health and hygiene education and post-natal classes for new mothers, to education campaigns against female genital mutilation (FGM) and community empowerment on the issue of domestic violence.

St. Verena Nurses Training Centre

One example of a successful vocational training course is St. Verena Nurses Training Centre.  Women from slum communities are given the opportunity to turn their lives around by studying nursing.  Their tuition is fully paid for and a small allowance is given to allow them to study.

They graduate as fully-fledged qualified nurses/ aged care nurses with prospects for a future.  Graduates are awarded their certificates by HH Pope Tawadros II in a special graduation ceremony each year.

We are involved:

In addition to its services in Egypt, COPTS also assists other partner charities in Australia with their approved projects in Egypt and other underdeveloped nations.  These charities include Shepherd & Mother of Light (SML), St Mark’s Nubian Organisation, the Sudanese Welfare Association, Exodus Youth Worx and services in Thailand, Indonesia, Bolivia and Brazil.

Dine for a Cause

Have you bought your tickets for our upcoming dinner? Join us for an evening of fellowship over a siamy (fasting) meal to raise funds for our Cana of Galilee project – supporting young, underprivileged brides in Egypt with the financial burden of building their future.

We hope to see you there!

A great deal of work has been done with your donations. It is only because of generous donors like you that COPTS are able to make a real difference to the lives of our Coptic brothers and sisters in Egypt and beyond.
The need is great and, with your support there is a lot more COPTS can do. We look forward to continue partnering with you in our service.
Please remember COPTS in your prayers.
